Trat - Bank Managers' Choice

The province’s slogan which reads “the province
of fifty-islands, priceless red rubies, sweet
zalacca, Siamese Ridgebacks, Ko Chang Naval
Battle, eastern end of Thai coast” truly reflects
the characteristics of this province. Trat is a
seaside province everybody dreams of visiting at least once in a lifetime. The reason being Trat’s numerous beautiful tourist attractions and its
reputation as a city of precious gemstones.

In addition to tourist destinations and local museums, Trat also
offers great food. I am Samart Mantham, the Manager of Trat
Branch. I would like to introduce some good restaurants to you.

Kuaitiao Pu Sukhumvit

With that name one might think this restaurant is in Bangkok, but in fact it is in Trat. Its popular dishes are guaranteed delicious and hard to find elsewhere. If you don’t believe this then look around at the plaques from TV programs and newspaper and magazine cuttings on the walls. Only fresh and carefully selected ingredients are used, including fish, crab, shrimp, mantis shrimp and squid, making it a hit with customers.

Recommended dishes:

  • noodle with fish string (kuaitiao sen pla)
  • noodle with seafood tomyam soup (kuaitiao tomyam thale)

Address: In Soi Sukhumvit, behind the municipal market in Trat town, about 50 m from Sukhumvit Road. Call for direction or ask anyone in the market. It is a well known place.
Opening hours: 8 am to 3 pm.
Tel: 0 3951 1972

Krung Thai Kitchen

This lovely restaurant offers warm atmosphere and offers both Thai and Western cuisines. It also has a variety of ice-cream and cake to choose from.

Recommended dishes:

  • fried squid in garlic (pla muek thot krathiam)
  • bitter melon salad with shrimp (yam mara kung sot)
  • deep fried fish with herb (pla thot samunphrai)
  • chicken sour soup with zalacca (tomsom kai sai rakam)

Address:401/99 Mu 2, Tambon Wang Krachae, Soi Muban Krung Thai, Sukhumvit Road, Amphoe Mueang, Trat.
Tel: 0 3952 3555

Meng Pet Yang

The owner of this restaurant told us that his secret of great taste lies in the “dry simmering technique”: to simmer herbs, duck, chicken, seaweed, fish maw together with no water to get the soup with great taste. A local herb called “bustard cardamom” is added in the duck with Chinese gravy (pet phalo) to achieve its uniquely delicious taste.

Recommended dishes:

  • noodle with duck in Chinese gravy (kuaitiao pet phalo)

Address: 1/10 Mu 2, Tambon Wang Krachae, Amphoe Mueang, Trat.
Opening hours: 7 am to 3.30 pm.
Tel: 0 3953 1485, 08 9834 6945

Having read the descriptions, how is your appetite? Are you interested in trying some of these? If yes, don’t delay your trip to Trat. Besides the beautiful tourist attractions, clear sea and an opportunity for relaxation in Trat’s natural setting, you can have good food along with it. I hope you like the menu I recommend.
